Audio Converter
Selecting Source files
The Audio Converter allows you to select individual files or whole folders* to convert a batch of audio files at the same time. The source files do not need to be in the same directory or even the same format.
Conversion Options
Format: The target audio format to convert the selected files to. Available options are: AIFF*, MP3, WAV*, CAF*, FLAC*, and M4A.
Sample Rate: Upscale or downscale the sample rate. This is useful if you’re looking to reduce file size where audio quality is not a priority (for example for radio or a podcast). Choosing a higher sample rate than the source audio will not increase the quality, and so usually this is best left at the default setting.
Data format
For uncompressed formats (AIFF, WAV, FLAC and CAF), this allows you to choose the bit depth of the audio file data. The default 16-bit setting is great for most applications, but if the source audio is at a higher bit depth and you wish to retain that information then chose 24-bit or 32-bit accordingly.
For MP3, this allows you to choose the compression algorithm for converting the audio file. Unless you are converting a large number of files and wish the conversion process to be faster, keep this at the default Best Quality setting. Fastest Conversion will result in a lower quality audio file.
For M4A, this allows you to set the data format. Currently, only Apple’s AAC data format is supported.
Bitrate: This option only appears if Format is set to MP3 or M4A, and allows you to select the bitrate used when compressing the file. Unless file size is a concern, you should leave this at the default highest setting (320 kbps).
Destination: By default, the converted files will be placed in the same directory as the originals (which are left untouched). Click Select to place the converted files elsewhere.
Flatten in target directory*: This option will only appear if a destination folder is selected. If checked, all files will be placed in the Destination directory at the top level. If unchecked, Audio Converter will retain the directory structure of the selected source files—this can be useful if you are converting your entire library to another format and wish to retain the organization of files you had before.
File Name Preview
This section shows you a preview of where the converted audio files will be saved to. If you are converting a large batch of files, be sure the folders and names look correct.
Full disk access
In recent versions of macOS, apps do not have access to any files or folders you do not explicitly select or open. This means that a Destination will need to be selected every time you wish to convert an audio file. To avoid having to do this, enable Full Disk Access following the instructions in the app.
Apple Loops conversion*
If you’re moving from Logic Pro to another DAW like Abelton or FL Studio, Audio Converter allows you to convert the Apple Loops included in Logic Pro’s downloadable content to another format.
Click Select Apple Loops to load all those files into the Source Files window.
It’s recommended to use WAV as the target format, as it will retain the audio quality and be the most compatible for other applications.
Note: Be sure to pay attention to the total file size at the bottom of the Source Files section. You will need at least that amount of free disk space in order to successfully convert all the audio files. It is recommended to have an additional 10 GB on top of that size in order for your system to work optimally.
If you moved Logic Pro’s downloadable content from the default location, you will need to select that folder manually using the Select Files or Folders button. Be sure to select a Destination directory and leave Flatten into target directory unchecked.
Interrupted Conversions
If you are converting a large batch of files and the conversion gets interrupted you can select the same source files and Destination. The converter will skip over any converted audio files that exist in the target directory.
* Feature is only available on Producer Toolkit Pro.
